Steelers 20, Saints 7

SaintsFirst off, sorry to those out there who don’t follow football, because that’s mostly what you’re going to get from here on out.

I’m not disappointed at the Saints loss last night. Already Mike McKenzie is being pointed at as toast. Poor guy. I’m not McKenzie’s biggest fan, but I’m also not upset that he got burnt on a long bomb on second down during a preseason game.

The Steelers needed to win that game for their self-esteem. They have a new coach. The Saints didn’t, and played like it, and nobody got hurt.

Good things about the game:

  • Reggie accepts a two-yard gain instead of a 5 yard loss.
  • Reggie falls forward on both carries.
  • Despite blitzes from the Steelers, we didn’t give up a sack. We got pressured and made questionable decisions, but we didn’t get sacked.
  • Despite playing vanilla defense, we got in three sacks, two in the first quarter.
  • Nobody got hurt.

Bad things about the game:

  • Jamie Martin is not very good. Please don’t get hurt, Brees.
  • Jason David got burnt even worse than McKenzie did.
  • Where was Roman Harper?
  • Where was Devery Henderson?
  • The Saints’ first score was Fife to Dudley. Can there be two more doofus names?

And I really can’t believe Chris Collinsworth asked Michael Irvin if he felt like he deserved to be the Hall of Fame.

Who Dat

I just realized that the first NFL preseason game is this Sunday, and it is the Saints vs. the Steelers.

And it’s on the $@#&!* NFL network, so I won’t be able to *%$#& watch it.

I hate the NFL network.

Let the Joey Harrington Era Begin

Yesterday, Michael Vick was indicted on dog-fighting charges. Way to go, Ron Mexico! You pissed away your ten-year contract! You decided that your natural athletic gifts weren’t worth it alone, you needed to maim, injure, and abuse dogs!

What this means for the Falcons is that the best worst quarterback in the league now has a legitimate shot at starting for an NFL team again.

Joey

Until they sign Dante Culpepper, that is. It will be Miami, take two. With fewer wins.

Poor Joe Horn.

Sports Question of the Half-Year

Everyone knows that football is the most popular game of this era. Does it have anything to do with the fact that they seem to have the CBA that most heavily benefits the owners? Does the fact that franchises can just cut someone loose with out having a Steve Francis situation make competititveness more feasible year in and year out?

I guess what i’m asking is this:

As far as being good for the game, is what’s good for the owners good for the sport?

Goodbye Beerman

BeermanAnother fan favorite was released from the Saints. Michael “Beerman” Lewis, the New Orleans local who drove a beer truck before signing with the Saints as a kick returner. Everyone loved Michael Lewis. In 2004, he was the best part of watching Saints games.

With Reggie returning punts, and rookie Antonio Pittman probably doing kickoff returns, the writing was pretty much on the wall for the Beerman. I’m sad to see him go, but that’s the way it goes.

Willie Whitehead was also let go. Did he ever do anything?

PETA Loves Ducks

Special note to non-football fans: the NFL draft is this weekend, thus beginning football season. Suck it up.

I hereby declare that I will no longer defend Michael Vick aka Ron Mexico. In the past, I’ve said that I think the Falcons QB is an alright guy, especially when compared to his leg-stomping pedophile brother Marcus. I just thought he was dumb, and that’s not a crime.

Vick Finger

Now, property he owns is being investigated for drugs and dog fighting. Yes, dog fighting. Way to go Mike. Continue reading PETA Loves Ducks

Even better than my dreams

Joey HThe Atlanta Falcons signed my favorite quarterback that doesn’t play for the Saints Joey Harrington to a two year deal.

This means Joey will be living in Atlanta. Joey, you will always be welcome at my house. We will drink cheap bear and call Terry Bradshaw mean names. Then we’ll laugh at Dave as he tries to throw a football 35 yards while sitting down.

I may have to go to a Falcons preseason game so I can wear my Joey Harrington Lions jersey.

Sweet Suite Sellout

The Saints look like they will sell out all the suites in the Superdome. That is awesome. It’s huge for the team’s future in New Orleans. I remember last year, after the season ticket sellout, reading things like “Great that the tickets sold out, but the suites are where the big money is, and there’s no corporations in New Orleans to buy them.”

Payton

From nola.com:

The Saints are on the verge of selling out all 137 luxury suites and more than 68,000 season tickets in the Superdome this year for the first time in team history. Last year, about three-fourths of the suites were sold. They range in price from $80,000 to $125,000.

In other suite news, Dave gave us tickets that included a suite to a 76ers-Hawks game this week. Talk about great. No lines to get a beer, no lines at the bathroom, a private bar, 30 feet from the court, parking where the players park. We all had a great time.

Dave your mission is now to get us a suite for a Saints game. Work your magic.
